Mabbs Hall Residents had an Easter Tea Party on Thursday.
Then for a week the Residents created crafts for the Easter Corner.
A music programme was held here on Tuesday evening.
Also n Saturday there were five Residents who attended a Church programme.
We have always had Unit Awards and various other awards to acknowledge the contribution made by our staff. But now as the Company has introduced the “High Flyer Award” for Staff that goes above and beyond their normal job.
A presentation will take place at the beginning of each month where the person or persons will be presented with a certificate and a pin (Golden Wing) that represents the Company’s Logo.
Birchy Hill’s first “High Flyer Awards” were presented on Friday 7th April 2017 to Jabin James, our Senior Care Team Leader, and Pia Zuchhold, our Leisure and Lifestyle Organiser. Both were acknowledged for their extraordinary work and loyalty to the service. They received their certificate and a golden wing, which they wear with pride.

I would like to express to you once again our sincere thanks for the generous gift of Easter Eggs collected for our Residents.
We were overwhelmed at the number collected and I know that the people living at The Orchid Care Home were also moved by people’s generosity.
It is so nice to see that there are good hearted people in society today that will put themselves out for a good cause.
On behalf of myself, the Staff and the Residents a very big thank you, please do come and join us for coffee and cakes if you are in our area, you will always be most welcome.
A HOST of sweet treats will spring from the oven later this month as staff at a Swindon care home take part in armed forces charity Help for Heroes’ baking campaign.
Bake for Heroes takes place throughout April and staff and residents at Orchid Care Home in Guernsey Lane will be doing their bit.
And for care home manager Dawn Drew, 53, from Haydon Wick, the baking drive is made more special by the fact that she used to be an Army nurse.
Proud to support the charity, Dawn said: “I saw first-hand the meaning of war and the devastation and impact it can have on young people and their families.
“When I was training with the Army it opened my eyes to how people pull together and support each other in every way they can.
“I think Bake for Heroes is a really good idea because all ages can take part, from the very young to the very old.”
She completed her nursing training with the Queen Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corps and later went on to work at the Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital in Woolwich between 1982 and 1985. She worked at the hospital during the Falklands War when injured and wounded service personnel would return from war.
She has managed the care home for the past two years and is looking forward to the bake-a-thon on Friday, April 28. She said: “Our kitchen staff are going to do some elaborate cakes that we can raffle off with all the proceeds going to Help for Heroes.
“The residents are also having a baking session and making cupcakes decorated in Help for Heroes colours. Baking is not my strong point. I’m probably better at icing the cakes than baking them. We have 84 residents here and we have very supportive relatives who always come along to things like this. No doubt quite a few will be joining us in the afternoon for tea and cakes.
“We do tend to do what we can in terms of fundraising at the home for various causes, and this gives me an opportunity to do something for a charity that is particularly close to my heart.”
Dawn said: “As well as caring for those with physical injuries, there is now a focus on those with mental injuries and the mental wellbeing of those who return from duty.
“I’m really pleased to see this because it has been sadly lacking in many areas of society.”

For a whole week the Residents at Birchy Hill were crafting to create the nicest Easter Bonnets for this year’s competition, they were then rewarded for their effort.
On Friday 7th April 2017, we had a lovely Easter Party with a Cream Tea and Entertainment was by the Singer Jane Parris; and last but not least the Easter Bonnet Parade, that everybody had waited for.
It was not easy to find a winner, as all bonnets were evenly nicely done. In the end the Committee decided for Betty H. and Kay to be the winners of this year’s competition and they wore her bonnets with even more pride.
After an afternoon full of lovely tunes, that encouraged the Residents to have a little dance and chat with each other, and also Relatives and Staff, everybody went happily back to their units.
