FLORENCE – THE LADY WITH THE LAMP

Florence, the Lady with the lamp

Florence and her Nurses greatly improved the conditions in the Crimean War and many more soldiers survived.

She earned the name “The Lady with the Lamp” because she would visit soldiers at night with a small lantern in her hand.

We even had our very own Florence Nightingale for one day, as the Health Care Assistant Jagroop Kaur proudly wore the outfit.

We all think she did a very good job – Well done

A VERY ROYAL WEDDING AT BIRCHY HILL

The build up to the Royal Wedding was a lot of fun for the Residents and the Staff at Birchy Hill.

Many of us were drawing or painting pictures of the royal couple with lots of hearts and flags to decorate.

Then we made a lovely collage to show the route of the carriage.

Then on Saturday the ‘Royal Couple’ moved into one of our lounges as a big surprise to the Residents, Staff and Visitors alike.

Unfortunately, they were not real, but nevertheless loved by everybody.

THE WAIT WAS OVER…………..

The wait was finally over, and Prince Harry tied the knot with Meghan Markle.

The Residents who watched the fairy- tale ceremony in television, could not wait to see ‘the kiss’.

There was so much happiness amongst the spectators here in Birchy Hill, some were singing, others applauding or just shouting out their good wishes.

WEDDING CAKE

After the ceremony in St George’s Chapel our Chef surprised everybody with a lovely Wedding Cake, a naked lemon and elderflower sponge cake just decorated with spring flowers, very much like the one the Royal Couple ordered.

Everyone was enjoying Bucks Fizz, Wedding Cake and a High Tea.

Then our Residents waited for the entertainment of the afternoon.
