PEDRO THE DONKEY ARRIVES AT BIRCHY HILL

As part of our animal therapy sessions we invited Pedro the Donkey and his handler Ron from the Animal Sanctuary Mike’s Donkeys.

The Residents loved Pedro. He was kissed and hugged and was even offered to sleep in one gentlemen’s bed. Everyone laughed when they saw how many ‘Rolos’ a Donkey can eat on his way through a Care Home.

To our surprise the Donkey was able to walk up and downstairs without a problem and could therefore visit all our 5 different units easily.

We hope to see Pedro again soon and send him a grateful ‘hee-haw’.

THE FRIENDSHIP SINGERS CAME TO BIRCHY HILL

How much is that doggie in the window?

Last week ‘The Friendship Singers’ entertained our Residents with well-known songs like ‘…the doggie in the window’, and everybody joined in.

It was lovely to hear how the lyrics have been remembered over many years. The afternoon was full of joy and laughter.

‘The Friendship Singers’ are a group of Ladies and Gentlemen from the Catholic Church in Lymington who like to bring happiness to Birchy Hill’s residents, and they clearly succeeded.

Thank you very much for this lovely time

NATIONAL CARE HOME DAY 2018

Dancing to the Music

As for many years we celebrated National Care Home Day in style. The singer Mike Sidaway was a great success with our Residents as he entertained us with tunes from Frank Sinatra and many more.

His audience just loved him. Some could not sit still anymore and started to dance either with Staff or Visitors who came for the Open Day.

This year’s motto was ‘Linking Communities’ and many guests came from nearby villages to take the opportunity to see Birchy Hill ‘in action’.

A lovely tea party rounded the day up and everyone left with a happy smile on their lips.

NAMASTE CHAMPIONS

Namaste – the End of Life Care Programme, developed by Prof Joyce Simard, was introduced to Birchy Hill 2 years ago.

Since then this programme is offered to Residents in their last stage of dementia. Our staff are regularly trained in Namaste Workshops.

More and more Health Care Assistants now see themselves giving Namaste Care to Residents.

We are very happy to announce 7 new Namaste Champions who will work alongside their leading Namaste Champion to provide best care in the last phase of dementia

The photograph shows only the first lot of new champions.

Congratulations to Cherry, Claudia, Ramon, Ranjit, Sibi, Veronica, and Victoria.

BIG DOG – SMALL GIRL

When little Victoria visited us, she liked to go ‘walkies’ with the St Bernard dog. We all wondered who is taking whom for a walk.

The Residents loved watching them both and applauded when she brought him back safely.
