BIRCHY HILL JOINED IN THE MACMILLIAN COFFEE MORNING 2017

“We are Macmillan”……

On Friday 29th September, Birchy Hill hosted a MacMillan Coffee Morning.

Staff donated homemade cake, chocolate brownies, and jam filled doughnuts.

Many yummy treats were sold to support Macmillan Cancer Research.

Thank you all for helping to change lives!

OWLS AND FALCONS COME TO BIRCHY HILL

Liberty’s Owl and Raptor Centre was visiting Birchy Hill and informed Residents and Staff about the differences in owls, their hunting habits, and how you can recognize a nocturnal owl from a daytime hunter.

All owls are carnivorous birds of prey and live mainly on a diet of insects and small rodents such as mice, rats, and hares. Some owls are also specifically adapted to hunt fish. They are very adept in hunting in their respective environments. Since owls can be found in nearly all parts of the world and across a multitude of ecosystems, their hunting skills and characteristics vary slightly from species to species, though most characteristics are shared among all species.

After having an informative morning in our café, the owls were brought to all lounges and to the residents who unfortunately are bedbound. Everybody enjoyed to see these majestic birds.

A big “Thank you” to the birds and their handler.

SEPTEMBER 2017 – HIGH FLYER

Once again a member of staff was awarded a Highflyer Award for working above and beyond his duties:

Luis Andrade does not only work in a very professional manor, he is also very reliable, and enhances the residents’ quality of life with his musical talent.

To receive the pin with a golden wing (the company’s logo) was a big surprise for Luis, who dearly deserved it.

Well done Luis!

SAM’S WALK 2017

Memory Walk 2017 in Southampton

Once again our Chef Samantha Nash walked to fight Dementia organised by the Alzheimer’s Society.

She finished the 10km in a stunning 1 hour 20 minutes. Congratulations, Sam, from all at Birchy Hill! Well done!

Thousands joined together to raise money and awareness against dementia and Alzheimer’s in the inaugural Southampton Memory Walk on Sunday, 17th September 2017.

More than 1,700 people walked around Southampton Common to highlight the disease’s impact as well as fund to support vital research and services.

The race was opened by Saints legend Matt Le Tissier who later tweeted how good the turn out for the race was.
