AN AFTERNOON WITH RETRO RITA

Some Residents from Birchy Hill enjoyed a lovely afternoon at Bashley Village Hall where Retro Rita entertained them with songs from the 40s and 50s.

Our ladies and gentlemen were dancing, singing and had a wonderful afternoon tea.

New Milton Dementia Friends invited to this very successful afternoon. Thank you for having us!

AQUAPAINT

At Birchy Hill one all time favourite daily activity is Aquapaint.

This is an easy activity, because only water is needed to create lovely pictures.

The Residents with different abilities are very happy seeing their work.

PAYING OUR LAST RESPECTS

Birchy Hill’s oldest Resident Maria B. wanted to celebrate her 100th birthday this year in April and to receive a telegram from HM the Queen. Unfortunately, she gave up a little too early and passed away in February. As she had no known Family, the Staff paid their last respect in Birchy Hill, from where Maria was brought to Bournemouth Crematorium.

While the hearse left the Home, we heard Andrea Bocelli singing ‘Time to say Good Bye’ in the background. The Staff were very emotional as they had known Maria for years.

Good Bye, Maria, RIP, we won’t forget you!

CHICKS HATCHED AT ORCHID CARE HOME

Orchid Care Home in Swindon unleashed their early Easter Surprise for their Residents this week. We had 8 eggs delivered in an incubator on Monday and by the end of Wednesday we had 7 delightful chicks for our Residents and Relatives to enjoy.

Unfortunately one didn’t hatch but with only 3 guaranteed we think we have done amazingly well. With a kind donation of a chicken coop and run from a local Resident we are hoping to keep them to provide stimulation for our residents and fresh eggs to enjoy.

The chicks are kept warm by ‘Robo Hen’ a four legged warming machine that simulates the mother hen sitting on the chickens. As they grow, so the legs of Robo Hen can be moved upwards. The Residents have all been delighted with the chicks and are looking forward to naming them all in the next week.

Orchid Care Home has a specialist Dementia Care Unit with a lot of Residents who either worked on farms or who had livestock of their own so this project will help promote meaningful activity for them as well as be a source of interest to our Residential and Nursing Residents.
